Sickle Cell / Thalassemia (Red Cross)

Work is being done under the "Madhya Pradesh State Hemoglobinopathy Mission" for screening, prevention, publicity and management of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell anemia in the 20 tribal dominated districts of the State. Under this, necessary allopathic medicines and supplements (hydroxyurea, folic acid, pain relievers, antibiotics, etc.) and blood transfusions as per requirement were provided to identified positive sickle patients and sickle carriers identified after community level screening in 20 tribal dominated districts. Under the guidance of Hon'ble Governor of Madhya Pradesh and President of IRCS, M.P.State Branch Shri Mangubhai Patel Ji, 20 tribal dominated districts has been adopted in which 89 blocks has been identified in which Thalassemia and sickle cell anemia treatment centre has to been set up by the Red Cross District Branches. For this purpose an amount of Rs. 2,50,000/- has been sanctioned for each 20 District Red Cross Society by Hon'ble Governor of Madhya Praesh.
